Sultan combines etching, aquatint, and silkscreen to create one of his most complex prints, a project that took two years to complete. Within so many layers of technique, he builds a full, lush image to investigate repetition of geometry in nature. The blossoms, exaggerated to an atypical size, are formed from a systematic tool to render them identical. The finely silkscreened grey lines and peeks of blue suggest a morning sky, and the rust color indicates the pistil of a flower. In one of the fuller Mimosa compositions and the only Mimosa print, Sultan redefines landscapes and still lifes, exploring the natural and artificial of the modern world.
