The complete the suite of four prints, Babar’s Four Seasons (Summer and Winter prints were published in 2006; Spring and
n 2006; Spring and Autumn in 2008) are based on illustrations for Babar’s Busy Year, a book that follows Babar and his family through the changing seasons. The colors in the Four Seasons prints are vibrant and rich, with each print consisting of 20 colors or more. Laurent de Brunhoff has only made eight original silkscreen prints in his entire career, all of which are published by Mary Ryan Gallery in New York. All are pencil signed and numbered by the artist.
In What Could Be Better Than Skiing in Winter?, Babar hits the slopes under a falling snow with Celeste, Cousin Arthur, Pom, Alexander and Flora. As a young boy in the 1930s, Laurent de Brunhoff grew up skiing in the Swiss Alps towns of Montana and Vermala with his father Jean de Brunhoff, his mother Cecille de Brunhoff, and his brothers.
