One of Jacquette’s largest woodcuts, New York Harbor Composite is a composite view from multiple floors of the World Trade rld Trade Center. Jacquette often compares the positioning at the top of the World Trade Center to being at the bow of a ship. Within the scene, she has depicted a view of Battery Park, Battery Park City Gardens, Mary Miss’ South Cove, Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty, the feather trail of the Staten Island Ferry, New York Harbor and boat lights, Goldman Sachs headquarters, the octagonal roof of the Holocaust Remembrance Museum, and the customs house, which repeats in the foreground. The Mansard roof of the old customs building is difficult to cut. Mixed Heights, although a finished print, acted as a study for Jacquette when creating this larger woodcut to be sure she could accurately and aesthetically complete the architectural and design elements of the roof. The thin, single, rippling line towards the height of the woodcut was rendered to suggest distant hills in New Jersey. This woodcut is based on Mixed Heights and Harbor from World Trade Center II, a painting owned by the New York Historical Society. The painting was reproduced on the cover of her monograph, Aerial Muse by Hilarie Faberman. Like the majority of her woodcuts, which Jacquette typically spends a year or more hand-cutting, it is printed in black ink on Japanese Okawara paper. She prefers this material for its natural contrast and ability to smoothly absorb the dense ink.
